Privacy Policy
Last updated .
This policy covers scorvane.net, the Scorvane game and its servers. It says what we collect, why, how long we keep it and how you control it. We collect as little as we can to run the game. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads and we don't track you across other sites.
Who we are
Operator: Scorvane (the company that runs Scorvane is being registered; its legal name and address will be listed here)
Contact: [email protected]
Scorvane is for adults
Scorvane is only for people 18 and older. Every sign-up and account asks you to confirm your age. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has signed up, email [email protected] and we will delete their data.
What we collect and why
Tester sign-up (the form on our home page)
- Your email address, to confirm it is yours and to tell you when your test wave opens.
- The name you want to use, your chosen wave (Alpha or Beta) and where you'll play, to plan the test.
- Your tester code and, once you use it, the id of the game account that claimed it.
- A scrambled (hashed) form of your connection's address, only to limit how many sign-ups one connection can make. We never store the address itself.
Your Scorvane account
- Email address, to sign in, confirm the address and reset your password.
- Your name and tag (like Ash#4821), shown to other players.
- Your password, stored only as a one-way scrambled form that nobody, including us, can read back.
- Sign-in records: the times of recent wrong passwords (to stop guessing) and scrambled copies of "remember me" sign-ins from the game.
- A summary of your characters (level, skills, quests finished, in-game money, title, where you were last seen), so your profile can show them.
Playing the game
- Your character and progress (inventory, quests, skills and similar), so you can keep playing.
- Your connection's address, which every online game needs to send you data. Servers also use it for a short time to stop floods and to enforce bans.
- Chat and voice: text and voice go to players near you in the game. Voice is relayed live and not recorded. Text may be kept in moderation records if it is reported or breaks the rules.
- Reports and moderation records, if you report someone or are reported.
- Steam: if you sign in with Steam, your SteamID, which Steam confirms to us.
- Screenshots taken with F12 stay on your own computer unless you send them to us.
Legal bases (for players in the UK and EU)
We use your data to provide the game and account you asked for (contract), to keep the service safe and stop abuse (legitimate interests), and to email you about testing because you ticked the box asking us to (consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
Who helps us run Scorvane
We use a few services to run Scorvane. Each one only gets what it needs:
- Cloudflare delivers scorvane.net and protects it from attacks. Your requests pass through its network.
- Zoho Mail sends our emails (confirmation, password reset, test invites).
- GitHub hosts some game downloads; downloading from it is subject to GitHub's own privacy statement.
- Valve (Steam), only if you sign in with Steam.
- Discord, only if you choose to join our community server there; Discord's own terms and privacy policy apply.
Our website loads no advertising, analytics, social media or tracking scripts, and its fonts are served from scorvane.net itself.
How long we keep it
- Tester sign-ups: until the test waves end, or until you remove your sign-up, whichever comes first.
- Accounts and characters: until you delete your account.
- Security and moderation records: only as long as they are needed to keep the game safe or to handle a dispute.
Your choices and rights
- See or correct your data: your account page shows what your account holds. For anything else, email [email protected].
- Delete your account: on your account page, choose "Delete my account". The account is deleted at once, and every realm deletes your characters within a day or so.
- Stop emails: every test email has an unsubscribe link. Account emails (confirmation and password reset) are only sent when you ask for them.
- Remove a tester sign-up: use the form below. We email a link to that address; opening it removes the sign-up.
- Depending on where you live (for example California, the UK or the EU), you may also have the right to a copy of your data, to object, or to complain to your data protection authority. Email us to use any of these rights; we answer within 30 days.
Security
Connections to scorvane.net and our account service are encrypted. Passwords are stored only in scrambled form, and staff tools need their own sign-in. No system is perfect: if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change matters to you, we will tell you by email or in the game before it takes effect.
