Download: https://downloads.scorvane.net/Scorvane-1.0.8-Setup.exe (Windows installer, 1.4 GB; the game updates itself from its title screen). ## At a glance - What it is: A post-apocalyptic online role-playing game (MMORPG), played in third person with a first-person option. - Platforms: Windows 10 and 11 today. macOS, Linux, PC VR, a Steam release and consoles are planned; plans can change. - Setting: Shelter 9, a cavern market under the desert, and the 12 km wasteland beyond its gear door. - Price: Free to test. The shop will sell cosmetics only. - Age: For players 18 and older only. - Status: In development, with no release date yet. Tester sign-ups are open now. - Version: 1.0.8.5, released 27 October 2026. Every change is in the release notes. ## The world You wake in Shelter 9, a cavern market of traders, a tavern and a bank, built into the rock under the desert. Past the gear door is a 12 km wasteland held by Dustcoat bandits, mutant packs and things that are worse in the dark. - Story: 44 main quests in five acts up to level 30, 77 side quests and 16 bosses. - Fights: Melee and firearms weigh the same. Third person, with a first-person toggle. - Survival: Light hunger and thirst, murky water to boil, wood to chop and ore to mine. They slow you down. They never kill you. - Roads: Cars, a scrap bike, a rust skiff on the lakes and an ultralight out of Kestrel Field. - People: Parties of four, guilds, a player market and bounties. Chat and voice carry about 30 metres, like a real voice. - Money: Scrip, earned from quests, loot and trade, and spent with traders, at the bank and on the player market. It is never sold for real money. - Sky: The sun, moon and rain follow real time at the server, so every player sees the same storm. ## Play to win, never pay to win Scorvane will earn its keep by selling looks only: outfits, paint jobs, emotes and nameplate styles. Nothing bought changes damage, armour, speed, loot, XP or Scrip. No boosters, no lockboxes. ## How to join the test The steps as the home page gives them (the Pair Tag is the sign-up form at https://scorvane.net/#signup): 1. Hand in your Pair Tag. Fill in the tag above: it makes your Scorvane account and asks for a place in the Alpha or Beta. Your name and tag, like Ash#4821, are yours on every realm. 2. Confirm your email. Open the link we email you. That links your wave to your account, so there's no code to type. We email again when you're approved and when your wave opens. 3. Install and sign in. Run the installer, then choose "Sign in to your account" on the title screen with the same email. Servers let you in once your wave is open. ## Alpha and Beta - Who it's for: Alpha, players who like finding what's broken. Beta, players who want to see the whole game. - Size: Alpha, small, invite by invite. Beta, much larger, to load the servers. - What's in it: Alpha, early parts of the world as they're finished. Beta, the story as far as it is finished when the wave opens. - Expect: Alpha, crashes, rough edges and character wipes. Beta, balance changes and the odd wipe, with notice. - We ask: Alpha, bug reports with screenshots (F12 saves one with debug info). Beta, play, report what feels wrong, join the stress tests. ## What you need - Computer: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, a graphics card from the last few years (Vulkan) and about 3 GB free. - Connection: Steady broadband. Scorvane is online only. - Microphone: Optional, for proximity voice. - Download: https://downloads.scorvane.net/Scorvane-1.0.8-Setup.exe (installer, 1.4 GB) or https://downloads.scorvane.net/Scorvane-1.0.8-Windows.zip (zip). Scorvane is a post-apocalyptic online role-playing game (MMORPG) for Windows PC, in development and free to test. You wake in Shelter 9, a cavern market under the desert, and head out into a 12 km wasteland held by Dustcoat bandits and mutant packs, played in third person with a first-person option. ### Is Scorvane free? Testing is free: the Alpha and the Beta cost nothing, and nothing is for sale yet. When the shop opens, it will sell cosmetics only. ### Is Scorvane pay-to-win? No. The shop will sell cosmetics only: outfits, paint jobs, emotes and nameplate styles. Nothing bought changes stats, loot, XP or progression, and there are no lockboxes or boosters. ### What platforms is Scorvane on? Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit, today. macOS, Linux, PC VR and a Steam release are planned, and consoles are a goal after the PC release. Plans can change, and none of them has a date yet. ### Is Scorvane on Steam? Not yet. A Steam release is planned; for now you download Scorvane from this site. ### Does Scorvane support VR? Not yet. PC VR is planned, with crossplay between VR and flat-screen players. ### Is Scorvane coming to consoles? Consoles are a goal after the PC release, with crossplay, but nothing is confirmed yet. ### When does Scorvane come out? There is no release date yet. Scorvane is in development and is being tested first in free Alpha and Beta waves, which you can sign up for now. ### Is Scorvane online only? Yes. You need a steady broadband connection and a free Scorvane account, which the Pair Tag on this page makes for you. ### What do I need to run Scorvane? A 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC with a graphics card from the last few years that supports Vulkan, about 3 GB of free space and a steady broadband connection. A microphone is optional, for proximity voice. ### How old do I have to be to play Scorvane? 18 or older. Scorvane is for adults only, and every sign-up and account asks you to confirm your age. ### How do I join the Scorvane test? Hand in the Pair Tag on this page: it makes your free Scorvane account and asks for a place in the Alpha or Beta. Then confirm your email, install the game and sign in; the servers let you in once your wave opens. ### Can I download the game before my wave opens? Yes. Install it now and sign in with your account. The servers let you in once your wave is open. ### When do the Scorvane test waves open? Testers are emailed when their wave opens. Dates aren't set yet. ### Will my test character carry over to launch? Not promised. The Alpha will be wiped as the game changes. If a Beta wipe is coming, players are told in game first. ### Why do I need a Scorvane account? Your account holds your name and tag, your tester place and your characters on every realm, so they follow you to any computer. It's free, and you can delete it any time from your account page. ### Someone else has my name. Is that a problem? No. Names can be shared. The game gives every account a four-digit tag, like Ash#4821, so friends, parties and guilds always find the right person. Nameplates show just the name; you see your full name and tag when you join. ### How do I remove my sign-up or delete my data? Use Your choices in the Privacy Policy: remove a tester sign-up by email, or delete your Scorvane account from your account page. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link too. ### Do I need a tester code? Not if you sign in to the game with the email on your Pair Tag: confirm that email and your wave comes with your account. The code is only for signing in with a different email; your Pair Tag shows it, and handing the tag in again with the same email shows it again. ### Can I switch from Beta to Alpha? One inbox holds one place, and one game account claims one code. Pick the wave you have time for. Alpha testers also get into the Beta. ### How do I use a tester code? Only if you sign in with a different email: type it on the Pair Tag on the game's title screen before joining, or later from the pause menu under Tester code. You only enter it once. ## Release history Newest first. Each version's notes are also at https://scorvane.net/releases.html. ### 1.0.8.5, 27 October 2026 Free alpha cosmetics at the Wardrobe, bug reports from the pause menu, campfires and benches you can use. New: - The Wardrobe: Marisol Quince's stall beside the market row has outfits, headwear, vehicle finishes, emotes and nameplate styles, free during the alpha. They are looks only and are cleared when the beta starts. - Report a bug from the pause menu: a title, what happened, and up to three of your screenshots with the notes the game saves beside them. - Walk up to a campfire or the Shelter 9 cookstove and use it to boil murky water and cook meat, fish and other food. - Sit on the benches in the plaza and the compound yard. Two people fit on each; walk or press interact to stand up. - On a controller, button prompts show the controller's buttons (X to interact, A to answer in a conversation) instead of keyboard keys. Fixed: - Holding an Empty Bottle at a pool drank from it instead of filling the bottle. - Training dummies raised your skills. They are for practice only now. - Compound sentries killed nearby creatures and left their loot for free. Anything a sentry has hit drops nothing, and two creature spawns moved away from the walls. - The crafting list couldn't be scrolled with a controller. Changed: - Shelter 9's boulders no longer block paths or sit inside stalls, terminals or people, and the people there turn to face whoever is nearest. - Stillwater's pond is round with a level shore, and Cob Hallam and the dock stand on solid ground. - Travel is smoother: zone doors no longer wait on an extra sign-in each time, a sleeping zone starts waking as you walk up to its door, and coming back to the wasteland a second time loads much faster. - Crowds use less video memory: distant characters' clothes are drawn simpler, about 400 MB less with a hundred people in view. - Servers send hits, shots and swings only to players close enough to see them, and do less work per fight. ### 1.0.8.4, 26 October 2026 Weapons and tools wear out, travel works again, and the market row stops pulling you back. New: - Melee weapons, guns, hatchets and pickaxes wear with use and break when worn out. Better weapons and every upgrade last longer, a used item shows how much is left on its slot, and you're warned when it's almost gone. - Traders pay less for worn weapons and tools, and only unused ones can go on the player market. Fixed: - Players whose character was saved outside Shelter 9 were sent back to the title screen when joining. - After travelling to another zone you could be stuck in place for about 40 seconds. - Walking by the market stalls, the Gate Post and the Garden Hall trees pulled you back or stuttered online. Changed: - Zones load faster and use less video memory: a first trip into the wasteland takes about a quarter less time. ### 1.0.8.3, 26 October 2026 Travel between zones without being dropped, walk on the diagonal, and keep your mouse in menus. New: - Approved testers see their wave on the title screen's Pair Tag instead of a box asking for a code. Fixed: - Walking into another zone, the wasteland most of all, could drop you back to the title screen, and every rejoin dropped you again. - Holding forward and sideways together made your character stutter online. - Opening the starter locker before the mission asked for it left the step impossible to finish. Characters already stuck are fixed when they load. - The mouse pointer vanished in the trader's shop window and other windows opened from a conversation or the pause menu. Changed: - Loading a zone keeps your connection alive the whole time, so a slow load no longer looks like you left. ### 1.0.8, 26 October 2026 Lighter on your PC and your connection, and realms that keep themselves up to date. New: - Realms now update themselves: a new version installs at the realm's daily restart, or within a few minutes with a warning in chat when an update can't wait. Fixed: - The first warning before a planned restart was sometimes skipped. Changed: - The game sends half as many packets to the server and receives far less when your inventory, quests or map change. - Scorvane rests your PC while you're in another window (30 frames a second) or minimised (10). - Servers do much less work for players standing still, so crowded places stay smooth. - 1.0.8 talks to the servers in a new way, so online play needs 1.0.8 once a realm has updated. The game offers the update on the title screen. ### 1.0.7, 26 October 2026 People move like people: new walking and running, injuries you can see, and ladders. New: - Walking, running, turning and stopping now come from real motion capture, blended live by a learned model, so characters move naturally with their whole body and their feet stay planted. - Injuries show: a hard landing or a heavy hit leaves you limping, clutching an arm or hunched over for a while. - Feet and hips follow the real ground on slopes, steps and rocks, and you lean into hills. - Wading changes your stride in deeper water. - Watchtower ladders can be climbed. - Mining, searching crates and wrecks, and picking berries each have their own animation. - Deaths end with the body lying down. Changed: - 1.0.6 realms still work with 1.0.7. Ladders and other players' injuries arrive as each realm updates. ### 1.0.6, 26 October 2026 Clearer voice, smarter Dustcoats and smoother online play. New: - Proximity and radio voice sound clearer and fuller, and a dropped packet no longer leaves a gap in someone's words. - Dustcoats fight smarter: they sidestep when you hit them or aim at them, and gunmen run for cover behind walls and buildings, then lean out to shoot. - Players and creatures in the distance move more smoothly. Fixed: - Dustcoats now go after the nearest player, not whoever happened to join the server first. - Voice no longer sends background noise while you're quiet with an open mic. Changed: - Online play uses about half the data it did, and voice about a quarter. - Realms now run on Linux servers built to hold bigger crowds. - Version 1.0.6 is needed to play online. The title screen updates the game for you. ### 1.0.5, 26 October 2026 Faster, sturdier updates. New: - Small updates now download only what changed, often a few megabytes instead of the whole game, and Scorvane restarts itself to finish. - Updates download much faster, even while the title screen is busy. - A dropped connection no longer starts the download over: it picks up where it left off, and tries again on its own. - Every download is checked before it runs, and a damaged one is fetched again instead of failing. Fixed: - Old update downloads are cleaned up, so they no longer pile up on your drive (each was about 1.4 GB). - The update tells you when there isn't enough free space, or when Scorvane is still open, instead of a vague error. - A failed install no longer leaves half-written files in the game folder. ### 1.0.4, 26 October 2026 Friends, in the game and on the website. New: - Friends in the pause menu: add friends by name and tag (like Ash#4821), accept or decline requests, and remove friends. It's the same list as your account page on scorvane.net. - See which friends are playing right now, on which realm, in which part of the world and on which platform. Everyone else shows when they were last seen. ### 1.0.3, 26 October 2026 See your version and update in one click. New: - The title screen shows which version you have. - When a new version is out, the title screen says so: choose Update now and the game updates itself and opens again, keeping your settings and saves. What's new shows the changes. - Join the Discord from the title screen or the pause menu. ### 1.0.2, 25 October 2026 Signing in from the game works, and the menus fit big screens. New: - Menus scale sharply to your screen, from laptops to 4K TVs. - Settings has an Interface size slider (75% to 150%). Fixed: - Signing in to your Scorvane account from the title screen no longer says “Can’t reach the account service”. - The realm list loads again. - The sign-in window opens in the middle of the screen. ### 1.0.1, 25 October 2026 Scorvane accounts arrive in the game. New: - Sign in with your Scorvane account from the title screen. Your name and tag, like Ash#4821, are the same on every realm. - Your characters show on your account page at scorvane.net. - A character you already had moves onto your account the first time you sign in. - Name your companion once you’ve hired Ren: type /ren name and the name. - The installer lists Scorvane in Settings › Apps with an uninstaller, and the game has its own icon. Changed: - New Sleepers start with a lean kit: a wrench, one meal and one drink. Weapons and medicine come from looting and quests. - Your name on the title screen comes from your account. Scorvane is online only. ### 1.0.0, 24 October 2026 The first public build for Windows. New: - Scorvane for Windows 10 and 11, as a one-file installer or a zip. - Shelter 9, the 12 km wasteland and the story so far, playable online with others. ## Pages - [Sign-up and download](https://scorvane.net/): what Scorvane is, how to join the test, the waves, the download and questions. - [Release notes](https://scorvane.net/releases.html): what changed in each version, newest first. - [Account](https://scorvane.net/account.html): sign in, create an account, add friends, see your characters, delete the account. - [Privacy Policy](https://scorvane.net/privacy.html): What Scorvane collects when you sign up to test, make an account or play, why, who helps us run it, how long we keep it, and how to see or delete it. - [Terms of Service](https://scorvane.net/terms.html): The rules for Scorvane and scorvane.net: players must be 18 or older, test versions can be wiped, fair play, cosmetic-only purchases and ending your account. - [Refund Policy](https://scorvane.net/refunds.html): Scorvane is free to test and sells nothing yet.
